NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR DIPLOMA PROGRAM

 Program Objectives

The Network Administrator program is designed for students wishing to pursue a career administering networks and supporting users on networked computer systems. Network implementation, installation, maintenance and management are rapidly growing areas in the information technology industry. The Network Administrator program will help students to develop the network administration and computer user support skills required to meet employers' needs in these areas.

Career Opportunities

The Network Administrator program focuses on preparing students to manage and maintain computers and network installations in small to medium-sized organizations. Graduates may successfully compete for positions such as Network Administrator, Technical Support Specialist and Help-Desk Troubleshooter.

Certification

Industry and vendor certifications have become a benchmark used by employers in the hiring process. The Network Administrator program helps students prepare for certification examinations in three areas:

Individuals interested in achieving these certifications must separately pay for and pass the standard exams at an authorized testing centre

 CERTIFICATIONS

Students who complete this program will be eligible to write the following certification exams: Microsoft MCP, Microsoft MCSE, Microsoft MCSA, Microsoft MCDST, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA Net+.

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

High School Graduation Diploma or Mature Student Status (18 years of age and high school equivalency test passed). In addition, an entrance examination must be successfully passed.

Accreditation Policy: Like all post-secondary institutions in Ontario, NASIT College reserves the right to accept or deny advanced standing into its programs.

 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Diploma:

NASIT diplomas will be granted only to students who successfully complete all Diploma and Career Management courses in the program with an overall average of greater than 60% and meet the minimum Standards of Satisfactory Scholastic Progress set out in our Student Handbook.

 Diploma with Honors:

Where an overall average of 90% is maintained and a student meets all standards related to contact hours, the student is eligible for "Honors" status upon graduation and such status will be recorded on his/her Diploma and Official Transcript.

 Diploma with Distinction:

Where an overall average of 80% is maintained and a student meets all standards related to contact hours, the student is eligible for "Distinction" status upon graduation and such status will be recorded on his/her Diploma and Official Transcript.

 PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The NASIT industry-leading Network Engineer Diploma Program is designed for the individual to become certified on more that one operating

system. Students receive training on the most popular operating systems including Microsoft

Windows 2003, Unix and Linux. Students will develop the knowledge required to install, configure and troubleshoot in multiprotocol networks.

Careers include Network Engineer, Network Support Specialist, Helpdesk Support, Technical Field Services Representative and Network Administrator.

Our Career Management program will introduce and enable students to apply the most effective

strategies to achieve employment in the career of their choice. At the onset our program students will learn how to develop Learning Skills and effective Study Skills as well as Memory and Stress Management to ensure success in our program.

 

Our Career Management training provides students with effective job search strategies, cover letter and strategic resume writing, effective interviewing skills and interview preparation to ensure their success in the career search process.

 

Our Career Service Consultants use a network of thousands of employers to generate job opportunities to augment a self-directed career search.

CompTIA A+ OPERATING SYSTEM

This course provides the student with the essential operating system competencies of a hardware service technician. The student will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of command line prompts, Windows 9x, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing computer systems.

 

CompTIA A+ HARDWARE TECHNOLOGIES

This core hardware course provides students with the competencies for a hardware computer service technician. The student will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of installing hardware, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing computer systems.

 

CompTIA NETWORK+
Upon completion of this course, students will have learned to configure network adapter cards, create local area networks of different topologies, understand IEEE 802 standards, understand WAN technologies, add and remove network protocols, and configure internetwork connectivity devices. This course also covers all aspects of the TCP/IP protocol including subnetting

 

Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional  - In this course, you will install, administer, and configure Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional. This course contains virtual labs.

 

Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment - This course provides students with the knowledge and skills that are required to manage accounts and resources, maintain server resources, monitor server performance, and safeguard data in a Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 environment.

 

This is the first course in the Systems Administrator and Systems Engineer tracks for Windows Server 2003 and serves as the entry point for other courses in the Windows Server 2003 curriculum.

Implementing, Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure: Network Services - This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to implement, manage, and maintain a Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 network infrastructure. The course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining server networking technologies. These tasks include implementing routing; implementing, managing, and maintaining Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS); securing Internet Protocol (IP) traffic with Internet Protocol security (IPSec) and certificates; implementing a network access infrastructure by configuring the connections for remote access clients; and managing and monitoring network access.

Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure- The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and maintain a Windows® Server 2003 network infrastructure.

Planning, Implementing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure - This course includes self-paced and instructor-facilitated components. It provides students with the knowledge and skills to successfully plan, implement, and troubleshoot a Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 Active Directory® directory service infrastructure. The course focuses on a Windows Server 2003 directory service environment, including forest and domain structure, Domain Name System (DNS), site topology and replication, organizational unit structure and delegation of administration, Group Policy, and user, group, and computer account strategies.

Designing Security for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network - This course provides you with the knowledge and skills to design a secure network infrastructure. Topics include assembling the design team, modeling threats, and analyzing security risks in order to meet business requirements for securing computers in a networked environment. The course encourages decision-making skills through an interactive tool that simulates real-life scenarios that the target audience may encounter. You are given the task of collecting the information and sorting through the details to resolve the given security requirement.

Implementing and Administering Security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network - This course addresses the MCSA and MCSE skills path for IT Pro security practitioners, specifically addressing the training needs of those preparing for the 70-299 certification exam.

The primary product focus is on Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 based infrastructure solutions but will include some client focused content where appropriate. This learning product is to provide functional skills in planning and implementing infrastructure security.

Business Communications for Technology The Business Communications for Technology component introduces students to the writing and speaking skills required in I.T. professions today. Through the use of examples, demonstrations, projects and group activities, students will examine various communication strategies and techniques used to present concepts in a clear manner, as well as formal report and proposal creation.  Furthermore, these skills will be put into practice using real-world situations introduced in the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician course.

Supporting Users and Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating SystemsThis course provides individuals who are new to Microsoft Windows® XP with the knowledge and skills necessary to troubleshoot basic problems end users will face while running Microsoft Windows XP Professional in an Active Directory® network environment, or Windows XP Home edition in a workgroup environment. This is an introductory course designed to provide an overview of operating system concepts and how to troubleshoot Windows XP.

Supporting Users and Troubleshooting Applications on a Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating System Platform - This course provides individuals who are new to Microsoft Windows® XP with the knowledge and skills necessary to troubleshoot basic problems end users will face related to configuring and maintaining applications such as Microsoft Office, Outlook Express, Internet Explorer and other applications that run on a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. This is an introductory course designed to provide information on how to troubleshoot applications running on Microsoft Windows XP.

Operating System Training
The certification validates technical competency and provides a broad awareness of  operating systems. Those holding certification demonstrate critical knowledge of installation, operation, administration and troubleshooting services.

Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

This course teaches you, through lectures, discussions, scenarios, demonstrations, chapter review questions, textbook exercises and classroom labs, the skills and knowledge necessary to implement and manage Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

 This course teaches the fundamentals of implementing and managing a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 messaging environment.

Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

This course will introduce students to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 System Administration and prepare them to install and/or upgrade to SQL Server 2000. Students will learn about environments in which SQL Server 2000 is installed, and they will learn to create databases and transfer data in databases. They will also

learn how to back up and restore system and user databases. This course shows students how to manage the security of SQL Server 2000 and its databases.  Students will learn about additional configuration and setup tasks, how to automate routine administrative tasks, and how to monitor SQL Server for performance and activity. They will also learn about SQL Server replication, log shipping and clustering.

 Internetworking Technologies Labs

The goal of these labs is to expose students to the various Internetworking technologies that are commonly used in industry today and to give students the practical skills necessary to set up and configure these technologies.
